I went with the classic strawberry-banana combo here because that will probably always be my favourite forever (next to that chocolate-banana combo, of course), but instead of drinking it out of a cup or through a straw you eat it with a spoon out of a bowl.
This Strawberry Banana Smoothie Bowl gives you that incredible sweet berry and creamy banana flavour (and made extra, EXTRA creamy by using full-fat coconut milk!!) but with a super secret/not so secret ingredient – CAULIFLOWER!
Yep – I did it. And you wouldn’t even know it to taste it. I swear that’s the best part!
It’s a squeaky-clean, gluten free, dairy free breakfast served in a bowl loaded with only good things!

A nutritious and delicious, pretty and pink Strawberry Banana Smoothie Bowls make with oats and coconut milk and topped with all your favourite smoothie bowl toppings like granola, coconut flakes and chia seeds.
What clean eating ingredients will you need to make this strawberry banana smoothie bowl recipe?
To make this clean eating you will need a frozen banana, frozen cauliflower florets, frozen strawberries (or a mix of strawberries and raspberries is delicious too), oats, full-fat coconut milk, honey, ground flax and water.
What else will you need?

HOW TO MAKE THIS STRAWBERRY SMOOTHIE BOWL RECIPE…
No special, out of the ordinary instructions for this smoothie bowl. It’s really just throwing everything in the blender, in no particular order, and blending until smooth and thick and deliciously pretty pink. Add more water if its too thick and giving your blender a hard time and throw in a handful of ice cubes if it turns out too runny or thin.
Of course, I LOVE anything strawberry banana flavour. Because it’s the best. But if you are feeling a little adventurous I encourage you sub out some strawberries for some frozen raspberries. Raspberries or not this is even more delicious with a little touch of honey.
I think full fat coconut milk is the way to go here. Were only using ¼ of a cup which is just enough to make this smoothie bowl creamy to the max without overpowering everything with coconut. The inspiration for the coconut milk? Having part of a can leftover from a curry dish I made. So friends, don’t waste that leftover milk!
Then there’s the oats and the flax. I used gluten free quick oats here – I just find the quick oats blend up a lot better than rolled oats. And oats combined with flax give this smoothie an extra dose of fiber that is going to keep you fuller longer making it the perfect breakfast option for busy mornings.
And lastly, that secret/not so secret ingredient – cauliflower. Cauliflower is the new spinach when it comes to smoothies and I swear you really can’t even taste it! I find that smoothies with cauliflower do have a slightly different texture than non-cauli smoothies but not in a good way or a bad way, it’s just different. And when you load up on your favourite smoothie bowl toppings (try granola, nuts, seeds, coconut, fresh fruit) you’re likely not going to notice the cauliflower at all!

I have to admit this was the very first EVER smoothie bowl I made.
It was definitely waaaay after smoothie bowls were super trendy and cool (because let’s be honest, that’s just how I roll when it comes to being trendy and really cool and I am totally, totally OK with that).
And even though I am years late to the smoothie bowl party here I am, spoon in hand, with this pretty pink, super delicious strawberry banana smoothie bowl.
A smoothie bowl (if you’re not familiar or just as many years late to this party as I am) is your favourite smoothie but instead of sipping it out of a cup or drinking it through a straw you eat it with a spoon out of a bowl and put an obnoxious amount of toppings on top.
When this smoothie bowl first come to be it was January of 2016 and my new year resolution that year was to be more trendy and cool when it comes to food and to learn how to take better photos of my trendy and cool food. 2016 was a big year for me (I got married! I started a new career path! I had the highest hopes and ambitions for this blog and ultimately ended up stepping away from it for quite some time to be able to find myself, my voice and what I actually stood and where I wanted to go as a person, a blogger, a nutritionist.).
With that said… Let me tell you, the first part of that resolution – be more trendy and cool – lasted about 3 days. (Don’t you just LOVE new year resolutions?!) It resurfaced briefly a little while later with these energy bites (<– so good by the way!) and maybe again when I gave sweet potato toast a try. And as you can imagine, 2016 did not turn out to be the trendy and cool year I dreamed of.
Stop me right there for a sec and let’s go off on a tangent, shall we?
Being trendy and up to date on all the latest and greatest is exhausting. And is it worth it? Does being trendy make you a healthier person? (I’m typing this is my most Carrie Bradshaw of voices by the way.)
My answer? Nope.
You don’t have to be trendy and cool to be healthy. You don’t have to try and keep up with everyone else to eat better. You don’t have to spend an arm and a leg on the latest supplements and superfoods or stress about staying trendy when it comes to making better food choices and creating healthier habits for yourself.
All the latest products and supplements and brands and trends are really great. And don’t get me wrong, I love so many of them and use a lot of them pretty religiously. But are they essential to healthy eating? Are they that missing piece of your eat-better-to-feel-better puzzle you’ve been missing all these years? Are they instantly going to make you make better food choices and be more mindful of what you’re eating? Does obsessing about these automatically make you healthier?
My point here – clean eating is more about making creating better eating habits and making smarter food choices it’s not about being trendy or trying to keep up with the Jones’. It’s not about making unrealistic lifestyle changes or eating things you don’t enjoy eating. It’s about eating more real food and creating the habits and making the choices to do it more often. And that’s why I love it so much. How cool or trendy you are doesn’t really have anything to do with making good food choices.
Getting back on track (kind of)…The second part of that resolution though; it might be the first resolution that I’ve been determined to stick throughout 2016 and beyond. Is it still a new year resolution at this point? Does learning a new skill count as a resolution? (Again, don’t you just LOVE new year resolutions?!) I don’t know.
But I do know that sticking with something (be it photography, or cooking, or eating better, or playing the guitar, or doing suduko puzzles) even when it gets tough, practicing it often and learning from your mistakes really does pay off.
Case and point… Strawberry Banana Smoothie Bowl circa 2016 has definitely come along way and I guess I will consider that one new years resolution a success.
