Almonds, cashews, roasted peanuts and dried cherries mixed with lots of chocolate to make one great (and healthy) afternoon snack!
Chocolate and nuts, friends!!
And lots and lots of both.
Am I wrong to say that this chocolate and nut combination is just heavenly? The almonds, the cashews, the peanuts, the seeds, the chocolate – all lightly sprinkled with sea salt. Heaven inside a pretty glass jar. Afternoon snacks don’t get much better than this Nutty Chocolate Cherry Trail Mix.
Trail Mix is crazy easy to make at home. Like, really, really easy. As in this is actually a recipe for combining different kinds of nuts together in a bowl. With chocolate. And dried cherries. And sea salt. And more chocolate.
And I may be a little bit biased here, as I dip into this jar of Homemade Trail Mix conveniently located beside my computer for yet another handful of this nutty goodness, but trail mix just tastes so much better when you make it yourself.
And, of course, if you are anything like me, not a single raisin will be making an appearance in this Homemade Trail Mix.
Unless raisins are your thing… then give’r.
But, see, it’s all those raisins that drive me crazy about a store-bought trail mix. There are always so many raisins.
I am definitely one of those people who will take a handful of trail mix out of the bag, eat the chocolates first, then the nuts, then put the raisins back in the bag for the next person to deal with. I repeat this process until I am left with a big bag of raisins.
And you better believe it because these big bags of raisins are still sitting in the back of my cupboard. You know, for the time I have a raisin-lovin’ friend over who just needs a handful of raisins ASAP or for the slightest of the slight possibility that I may decide raisins aren’t so bad after all.
I made sure to include loads of chocolate in this homemade version trail mix. I used both dark chocolate and milk chocolate chips and lots of them. Because getting a little chocolate in each bite is what this trail mix is all about.
And because sometimes you just need more chocolate in your life.
Almond, cashews and peanuts were my nuts of choice here along with some sunflower seeds. Some raw, some roasted then mixed together with chocolate and dried cherries. Pumpkin seeds and hemp hearts would also be amazing in this too!
(PS – you need to try the almond, dark chocolate, dried cherry combination right now!!)
You can use whatever combination of nuts, seeds, chocolate or dried fruit you please. Best of all, when making your own trail mix you control the salt level and quality of ingredients. And you can ensure this snack stays gluten-free and without any additives and preservatives.
