WHY DO I ENCOURAGE EVERYONE TO MORE VEGETABLES?
Well, because eating more vegetables is never a bad thing!
And because eating more vegetables probably the easiest, number one thing you can do to eat better. Vegetables are loaded with vitamins, minerals and fibre. And eating more of them can make you feel good in every physical, mental and emotional way possible.
The Always Nourished community is a veggie-focused, whole-ingredient, real food approach to healthy eating.
But we’re not about labels. So even though many of the recipes found here can easily be adapted to be allergy and lifestyle friendly including vegetarian/vegan, gluten free, dairy free, soy free, nut free and peanut free we are more about getting real food onto your plate.
I am also a huge advocate for meal planning. Planning ahead for the week has saved my sanity, my health and so much of my time each. Not to mention it is the only way I can ensure I am getting those veggies in each and every day …even when life gets busy.
I am here for you!
The hardest part of eating better is figuring out how to do it each and every day. I understand how it feels to be questioning your food choices when it comes to wanting to eat healthier at home (trust me – I’ve been there!). There’s a lot of conflicting information out there about nutrition and fad diets and unrealistic lifestyles – it can be stressful and overwhelming.
Eating well doesn’t have to be difficult or time-consuming. Because you deserve to live your life and still eat better.
Whether you are new to cooking, wanting to eat better or just need some new ideas and inspiration in the kitchen, I am here to help!
WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO GET THE MOST OUT OF THIS COMMUNITY
Have you ever gone to make a tasty-looking recipe you found on Pinterest to soon discover that you don’t know what most of the ingredients are and you definitely don’t own all the fancy equipment needed to deal with the unknown ingredients?
It’s the worst!
That’s why I’ve created The Ultimate Guide to a Healthy Kitchen! Keep this guide close by while you set up your kitchen or while grocery shopping will ensure you’re always prepared to make any recipe found on this site! So, what’s included in the guide?
How to Keep a Well-Stocked Pantry
This checklist outlines the basics of a well-stocked and prepared kitchen and includes the ingredients that are used in the majority of the recipes found here. When it comes to making a healthy meal on the fly or needing to get dinner on the table ASAP you’ll be glad you’re fully prepared.
I always try to create recipes using common, easy to get ingredients that can be used in many different ways and in many different recipes. However, please note that when it comes substitutions there may be the odd exception.
Use this as your guide for stocking up on canned goods, grains, nuts, spices and refrigerator items.
What Tools to Use
I love kitchen gadgets and small appliances just as much as the next girl. But eating healthy at home doesn’t mean you have to spend a fortune on all the latest and greatest gadgets (because we all know there’s no more space left in our kitchen cabinets for another kitchen gadget!).
This checklist outlines all the kitchen tools and small appliances I use every day in my kitchen. (And it also outlines the exact tools that are used and needed to make the recipes found on this site.)
I’ve also categorized the most common kitchen tools into which ones are must-haves, which ones are nice to have but not necessary and which ones are just for fun!
Cooking is so much more enjoyable when you have the right tools!
