A beautifully Green Strawberry and Banana Layered Smoothie just for you on a rather green day.

Green Strawberry and Banana Layered Smoothie | nourishedtheblog.com | A fun layered smoothie made with strawberries, yogurt, banana and spinach makes for a gluten free breakfast on the go.Yep. A bright and festive smoothie for a bright and festive day.

I don’t think smoothies get more delish because, well, strawberry and banana. Or pretty! I mean, look at those layers!!

So, I’m obsessed with layered smoothies. It’s pretty much the best of all the smoothies. 2 flavors. 1 smoothie. Best.thing.ever. All while being the most beautiful breakfast.

This smoothie has been my go-to breakfast this entire week. And for good reason. I hate to admit it but I can be a tad indecisive. Just a tad. And especially when I am super hungry. And especially when I really need breakfast.  I know it doesn’t really make sense… but I think it’s because I really just want to eat all the things. And when I have 2 awesome smoothie recipes in my head, a strawberry berry-packed smoothie and a super green and nutrient-rich banana smoothie, it can be an impossible decision to make.

Enter the Green Strawberry Banana Layered Smoothie.

ABOUT THIS GREEN STRAWBERRY BANANA LAYERED SMOOTHIE RECIPE

Two smoothies all at the same time means no hard breakfast decisions necessary.

First, we have the pink layer. It strawberry and pink and berry-licious. Frozen strawberries and my new fav, berry flavoured Skyr yogurt, blended together with almond milk. It’s slightly sweet, very creamy and just so pink.  (PS – Have you tried Skyr yogurt yet?)

And then we have the green layer. It’s not made with green bananas but with super ripe and frozen bananas blended with spinach and ice.  Because Strawberry Banana Smoothies only get better when spinach is involved… or green of choice. Mine is definitely spinach.  Or when you put your strawberry banana smoothie into a bowl!

A note on layering… Here the more dense layer is the strawberry layer with the yogurt. The more dense layer should be the bottom layer.  Otherwise, you will end up with only one layer. Speaking from experience here, friends.

Ingredients

Pink Layer:

  • 1 cup frozen strawberries
  • 1/2 cup berry flavoured yogurt (greek, regular, skyr)
  • 1/2 cup almond, coconut or regular milk (or more to thin if needed)
  • Optional: protein powder, hemp seeds, chia seeds, etc

Green Layer:

  • 1–2 cups baby spinach
  • 1/2 cup water or milk of choice
  • 1 large banana, ripe and frozen
  • Optional: protein powder, hemp seeds, chia seeds, etc

Instructions

  1. In a blender or Nutribullet make the pink layer by adding the strawberries, yogurt, milk of choice and add-in, if using. Blend until smooth and creamy.
  2. Pour the pink smoothie into the bottom of 2 glasses. Set aside.
  3. Rinse the blender or cup.
  4. Add the spinach, water and add-in, if using to the rinsed blender or cup. Blend until the spinach is pureed. Add the frozen banana and continue blended until smooth.
  5. Slowly and carefully, pour the green smoothie over top of the pink layer. (If you pour too fast, the smoothies won’t layer nicely.)
  6. Drink immediately with a straw.
