COOK MY BOOKS
So, you know that collection of cookbooks you have that’s taking over your entire bookshelf? The ones that never really get looked at anymore because Pinterest makes it just too easy? Chelsea over at Chelsea’s Healthy Kitchen started a great challenge at the beginning of the year – The 2017 Cook My Books Challenge. And she’s challenging us to cook more from our books. Each month I cook just 3 recipes from your cookbook collection.
Pretty fun idea, right? And I love breaking out some books each month, flipping through each one to find the perfect recipe for the season. So in March I cooked 3 delicious dishes from my books.
Sweet Potato, Chickpea and Spinach Curry from Oh She Glows Everyday by Angela Liddon
Roasted Red Pepper and Almond Hummus from Eat, Drink and Be Vegan by Dreena Burton
Vegetarian Collard Wrap from It’s All Easy by Gwyneth Paltrow

FAVOURITES IN BEAUTY
With summer being right around the corner (I write this with a fresh blanket of snow outside my window – angry face times a million!!) it was time to re-vamp my skincare line. In the winter and throughout the colder months I need crazy, insane moisturizing qualities in my skincare products yet in the summer I keep everything as light as I can. So I went with the new Andalou Naturals Quenching Coconut line and I LOVE it (right now I am using the toner, the serum, the eye cream, the day cream and the night cream)!
It is their quenching line so it’s still very moisturizing but so light and smooth all at the same time. My face not only feels soft but I think it looks soft too (that’s a thing, right?). I especially love the day and night creams because they smell amazing (it’s a refreshing coconut scent) but I think they have a little touch mint in them too that gives a great cooling sensation, which will be awesome in July.
Also, making my own natural deodorant at home… thanks Davida! I kind of thought it sounds a little weird at first too (and J definitely thought I was nuts when he walked in the kitchen and asked what I was making) but just hear me out. I switched from using conventional deodorant to the natural stuff a little while ago. Some natural deodorants are really great, and some are really, really not. But once I found the brands that worked well with me, the switch to natural was easy and is one I will be sticking with for the long haul. So when I was watching Davida’s YouTube channel and saw that she was making her own deodorant at home with all the ingredients that were found in my current brand, I knew I had to try it at home.
The results? Pretty good! I didn’t quite follow the recipe to a T – I added in a lot more scent (I used my favourite citrusy blend instead of lime and bergamot) and also some of my favourite argan-based face oil for extra moisturizers (I talked about that oil here). The consistency isn’t quite the same of the store bought one but it just about as good and I now have what looks like a year’s supply of deodorant, which is very much OK with me!
FAVOURITES IN FOOD
This isn’t a sponsored post – I genuinely love these products.
I am currently obsessed with eating ALL the Buff Bake nut butters straight-up from the jar with a spoon. And these aren’t your average almond or peanut butter – they have lots of good stuff added in like protein, chia and flax seeds and more times than not, chocolate! Pretty much all my favourite things all in one!
The other thing I can’t get enough of lately are the Chimes Ginger Chews. These are sweetened, crystallized ginger in chewy candy form and they are so good! They are a little bit spicy because of all the ginger and so very much addicting. I was sick towards the end of the month with a touch of the flu and the Peppermint Chimes saved the day when it came to making my stomach not feel like a woosey mess. But for everyday enjoyment the Orange flavour is where it’s at.
Other things I am been making like crazy this past month have been smoothies (obviously – and my love for the banana-chocolate protein-peanut butter combo in a smoothie has grown to the next level), soup of all sorts, buttery toasts and scrambled eggs with salsa on top.
